In the United States, there have been debates about the laws that govern possession of firearms. Gun politics is a controversial area of American politics between Gun Control and Gun Rights activists. Both groups propagate their subjective arguments on laws relating to firearms, its control, crime and public safety. Gun Control advocates calls for stricter restrictions on gun availability while Gun Right loyalists promote guns for self-defense, hunting and sport activities. However, the two sides have a common ground, which is, the possession of a gun is not a license to kill anybody at will.
Dearest, I would discuss with you about a weapon in the arsenal of believers that is similar to the gun. Much more potent than the firearm and the efficacy is real like the bullet. It is GRACE! Grace is that which make us to be joint heirs with Christ, share in the commonwealth of Israel and spiritual blessings in Christ Jesus. It gives us the right to become the sons of God and go confidently into the presence of God.
Grace is a gun with endless capabilities. Grace can be appreciated, valued or abused just like the gun. Our salvation and atonement by the blood of Jesus does not permit the believer to go on sinning at will and claim he/she is under grace.
What should we say then? Should we continue to sin so that God’s kindness will increase? That’s unthinkable! (Romans 6:1-2 GW)
Some believers have gone into error, stating that the grace of our Lord Jesus covers the atrocities they willfully commit. These Christians live carelessly, walk on the fringes of sin and tolerate wickedness and evil in the name of Grace! They sin intentionally and ask for forgiveness later. They ridiculously quote Romans 8:1 “there is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus” and stop there. But they forget the later part of the same verse that says “…who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit”
When a Christian toils with sin and justifies himself/herself, it means he/she is living according to the sinful nature. The grace of our Lord Jesus does not give license to kill. We cannot continue in sin and say grace covers the sin. God forbid. Apostle Paul warned us to continue to work out our salvation with fear and trembling in his letter to the Philippians. Jesus Christ did not give us grace to sin but to live without sin, for the reward of sin is eternal death.
12 Therefore, brothers and sisters, we have an obligation—but it is not to the flesh, to live according to it. 13 For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live. Romans 8:12-17(NIV)
Grace does not sponsor misdeeds, sin, lawlessness and immorality. Grace sponsors righteousness, faith, godliness, purity, self-control and brotherly kindness. Therefore, let everyone who confesses the name of the Lord turn away from wickedness. The Lord knows those who are his.
Make no mistake about this: You can never make a fool out of God. Whatever you plant is what you’ll harvest. If you plant in [the soil of] your corrupt nature, ( living as you like claim you are under grace) you will harvest destruction. But if you plant in [the soil of] your spiritual nature, you will harvest everlasting life. (Galatians 6:7-8 GW emphasis mine)
Grace is not a license to kill! Grace is a license to live righteously for God and have victory over the power of sin and the enemy – devil.
