3D SERIES: Man

Dearest, I am glad you are reading once again. This encourages me a lot. Thank you. I would continue on the 3D series I started last week. Remember, the 3D series are series of subjects that can be discussed from three unique sides. Today, I would be talking about Man from three angles: spirit, soul and body. I would discuss the subsets, how they function and how we can take advantage of them. I hope you will be blessed.

From the scriptural passage of 1 Thessalonians 5:23, Apostle Paul established man as a tripartite being. By definition man is a spirit that has a soul and lives in a body. God is a spirit (John 4:24) and we’re created in his image (Genesis 1:27) so man is a spirit. Further in the scriptures, Jeremiah 1:5 tells us man existed in spirit form before his formation in the womb. If man is a spirit, what then are the soul and the body? In Genesis 2:7 the man was formed from the dust of the ground. That is, the physical structure the soul and the spirit of a man reside is the body. Meanwhile, the soul is the center of our intelligence, emotion and will. It is simply the mind or the unconquered flesh. The soul isn’t the same as the spirit. In fact they opposed to each other (Galatians 5:17). Also, Hebrews 4:12 says God’s word can separate the Soul and the Spirit. With that said, man is a spirit that lives in a body and possesses a soul.

The three dimensions of man have their unique purposes. The spirit is the interface for the spirit realm, realm of the supernatural. The soul is the interface for interaction in the intellectual realm, realm of the mind while the body is the interface for the physical interaction on earth. The spirit is what gets born again when we give our live to Christ. (John 3:3-5, 1 Cor 5:17) Our soul and body don’t get born again! Divine communications from God to us comes through our spirit (1 Cor 2:9) that’s why the bible emphasizes the need to develop the spirit so as to receive clear communications. The soul is the center of accumulation of past experience, training, education, temperament and common sense. It is like factory of our responses, feelings, will and emotion except the person is born again. As I earlier said, the soul doesn’t get born again but can be renewed by the word of God. The body is carrier of the spirit and the soul so that man could perform his life engagements on earth. Think of the body as a house that a person (the spirit, real you) dwells and the soul as the interior designs of the house. Without the house, the man is homeless. Without the body man cannot fulfill his assignment on earth.

From the scriptures, the three subsets of a man can be harnessed for God purpose on the earth. In Matthew 4:4 and Joshua 1:8, the significance of God’s Word to man is highlighted. A person cannot live on bread alone but on every word that God speaks… Never stop reciting these teachings. You must think about them night and day so that you will faithfully do everything written in them. Only then will you prosper and succeed.  Meditation, practice and obedience to God’s words, this is how we can develop our spirit being. The soul is to be transformed and not conform to the world (Romans 12:1-2) so as to effectively team up with the spirit. Kenneth E. Hagin puts it better this way

“But when the mind has been renewed with the Word of God, the spirit through the renewed mind can control the body. The soul (mind) will then take sides with the spirit, because it knows the Word. It is renewed with the Word. It will allow the spirit to dominate. Then God’s Spirit will dominate through man’s spirit.”

In addition, the mind can be developed by reading good quality books (2 Timothy 2:15). Meanwhile the body can be developed and maintained through good diet (not junks) and physical exercise (1 Timothy 4:8). This would help keep the body healthy and prevent avoidable sickness that can lead to untimely exit on earth.

In closing, we can see that man is more than meets the eye. So dearest, lets harness these three powerful ‘forces’ for the fulfillment of our destiny. Till next week, live the best for God.
